How to choose a smartwatch strap: 18, 20 or 22 mm and which clasp type to pick

The strap width is set by the distance between the watch lugs in millimeters — most often 18, 20 or 22 mm. For example, 22 mm fits Huawei Watch GT 46 mm, Samsung Galaxy Watch 46 mm and Gear S3, Amazfit GTR; 20 mm fits Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 / 5 / 6 / 7, Huawei Watch GT 42 mm, Amazfit GTS; 18 mm fits compact models such as Garmin Vivoactive 4S or Huawei Watch GT 4 41 mm. Straps with quick-release pins (Quick Release) can be changed without tools in a few seconds. Apple Watch and fitness bands use their own attachment — standard straps do not fit them.
A strap is the easiest way to change the look of a smartwatch: a steel bracelet for the office, a Milanese loop for every day, a strap with a magnetic clasp for sports. But first you need to get the width right — otherwise the strap either will not fit or will wobble between the lugs.
How to find out the strap width
- Look at the old strap. A number — 18, 20 or 22 — is often stamped on the back near the attachment.
- Measure the distance between the lugs of the case with a ruler or caliper, in millimeters. Round to the nearest even number.
- Look up your watch model in the manufacturer’s specifications: the “strap width” is listed there.

Which type of strap to choose
- Solid Steel bracelet — massive, with stainless steel links; it looks like the bracelet of a classic watch. It suits a business style well; the size of a link bracelet is usually adjusted by removing extra links.
- Milanese Loop — a fine steel mesh with a magnetic clasp: the size adjusts smoothly without tools, and the strap is easy to put on with one hand.
- Steel strap with a magnetic clasp — denser than the Milanese loop, but it also adjusts in length with a magnet.
How to change a strap in 10 seconds
Most of our straps have Quick Release pins (this is stated in the product specifications): there is a small lever on the pin.
- Turn the watch over and find the small lever on the pin of the old strap.
- Move the lever to the side with your finger — the pin retracts, and the strap comes out of the lugs.
- Insert one end of the new strap’s pin into the hole in the lug, move the lever and slide in the other end.
- Release the lever and give the strap a tug — it should sit tight, without any play.
